Dozens of apps help women track their period but that information rarely reaches their partners. Lunarmates is built for the men who want to understand the menstrual cycle — to know and anticipate the days that call for action, which days call for tolerance, and when flowers or chocolate might land better than usual (hint: it may not be when you think). Every woman is different, and every day of the ~28 day cycle is different, too.
Founder Matthew J. Spaniol spent 21 years trying to track his wife's cycle the hard way — and wishing an app existed to help. Lunarmates was approved in Google Play at the end of June 2026, and is available as an installable web app for iOS. Now his wife wants him to share it with the world. It's free, with no ads.
Lunarmates doesn't try to teach men about cycle phases, or suggest behavioral changes — instead it displays the data, plainly, and prompts each man to formulate his own insights and conclusions. There's no AI in the app trying to make predictions or suggestions: he's just given the forecast, what it typically means, and a place to log customized observations.
Either partner can download the app and invite the other, and each sees a view tailored to their side of the cycle — hers for tracking, his for understanding.
The Lunarmates forum is where men share observations and questions — anonymously, and only if they choose to. Every observation a man logs is private by default; posting to the forum is a deliberate choice. The forum sits in the app's main navigation, open for any user to read, including partners. Think of it as a locker room where the conversation is "how do I get this right?" — and the door is open.

Matthew J. Spaniol is the Founder and CEO of Lunarmates. A senior researcher at Roskilde University, he lives in Copenhagen with his wife of 21 years and their two children. Lunarmates grew out of 15 years of doing what researchers do — observing carefully — applied to his own marriage.
"Every day is a different day, but the underlying hormonal pattern is decipherable. Every woman is different, and the app helps you capture your own observations over time. My wife says I have become a better partner."
